Big Insurance, Allies in Louisiana House Attack Victims and Policyholders

Louisiana lawmakers passed pro-insurance bills that harm victims’ rights—despite past tort reforms, insurance rates keep rising.

The Louisiana House of Representatives passed a radical package of anti-consumer bills that drastically stack the deck in favor of big insurance companies. Moreover, these bills gut victims' rights, allowing insurance companies to pad their profits with the pain and suffering of victims injured through no fault of their own.

Last year, Commissioner Temple promised his property insurance tort reforms would lower rates for homeowners. This year Insurify projects a 27% increase in Louisiana homeowners insurance, the LARGEST INCREASE IN THE NATION.

In 2020, industry-friendly lawmakers gleefully celebrated the passage of tort reform after promising the pack of bills passed would lower auto insurance rates 25%. Instead, rates have skyrocketed.
